Joan Graves, the retiring head of the Motion Picture Association of America's ratings board, is recovering after falling from a stage during a Las Vegas trade show for movie theater professionals, the industry publication Variety reported Tuesday.
Graves announced in November 2018 that she planned to retire this year as chair of the Classification and Rating Administration, the body that assigns ratings to movies. She was receiving an award for her career during CinemaCon when she tumbled from the stairs leading to the stage and struck her head, causing audible gasps from the audience, according to Variety.
Medics treated her on the scene and she was later taken to the hospital. MPAA spokesman Chris Ortman tweeted she was doing well.
"Thank you for those who have asked about Joan Graves. She is doing fine. Is in good spirits and her usual witty self. Was taken to hospital out of an abundance of caution. She is in good hands thanks to CinemaCon staff, first responders, and her MPAA colleagues," he said.
Graves has worked at the ratings board since 1988 and was named chairman in 2000. She will be succeeded by MPAA Vice President and Corporate Counsel Kelly McMahon when she steps down later this year. http://bit.ly/2Ibezi6
